Chief of Staff

Operations, Full-time, San Francisco, CA (onsite), $120K to $180K

About Lane

Lane is building the financial infrastructure for the agentic web. Our mission is to turn intent into action: we give AI agents a dependable way to reach businesses, to prove who they act for, and to pay for what they buy. The first web was built for eyes and fingers; it was a library of documents. The second was built for apps; it was a set of walled gardens. We're building the third, a web built for agents.

Lane has two products. The Lane Wallet connects a person's own card to their agents and lets them approve what an agent buys. The Lane Index lets agents find businesses and their tools, then authenticate to them and pay for them, with agent auth and billing built in. We're a small team in San Francisco, and the people who join now take real ownership of the systems, the customers, and the company we become.

The Role

You'll run everything at Lane that isn't code. That covers growth, partners, compliance, events, and the operating rhythm of the company. You'll work directly with the founders and take work off their plates the week you start.

This role is broad on purpose. Some weeks you'll run a launch event; other weeks you'll prepare for an audit or close a partner agreement. We want someone who likes that range and makes each piece run without being asked twice. The base salary range is $120K to $180K, plus competitive equity. We'll talk specifics during the process.

What You'll Work On

Growth

Run the pipeline from first touch to signed customer: outbound, CRM hygiene, follow-ups, and onboarding handoffs. Track the funnel and report what moves it.

Partners and stakeholders

Own the day-to-day relationship with our banking, payments, card network, and technology partners. Keep investors, advisors, and board members informed with clear, regular updates.

Compliance operations

Run our compliance program day to day, reporting to our compliance officer. Keep SOC 2 and PCI DSS evidence current, track controls, and prepare for audits and partner reviews. Maintain policies, training records, vendor reviews, and the risk register. Support our AML and consumer-protection programs, including complaint handling.

Events and brand

Plan and run Lane's presence at conferences, dinners, hackathons, and launches. Own the calendar, the budget, the guest list, and the follow-up.

Company operations

Own recruiting coordination, vendor and tool management, contracts and signatures, and the internal cadence: planning, metrics, and weekly updates.

  • Exceptional organization. Nothing you own slips, and people trust your tracker.
  • Strong writing and judgment with senior external stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and with doing the unglamorous part yourself.
  • Fluency with modern tools: CRM, spreadsheets, Notion or Linear, and AI assistants.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on SOC 2 or PCI DSS audit experience, or a compliance platform such as Vanta.
  • Familiarity with payments or AML compliance programs.
